Improving your wine cellar
A perfect environment has an enormous influence on the quality of a wine. Ideal conditions are all the more important for expensive wines that will be stored for a longer period. The right air humidity, as well as a suitable and constant temperature, significantly affect the shelf life and quality of fine wines and therefore enable many years of storage in a wine cellar. This process can maintain and even improve the excellent quality of the bottles.
An excessive humidity ratio in the air can cause rising damp, soften boxes and wooden crates or result in mold and rot. The right air humidity is extremely important for the corks as well. Fungi can travel through the cork and into the wine, leaving it unfit for consumption. In turn, inadequate humidity leads to dry air that may produce cracks and harm the wine due to too much oxidation.
